Artist statement
As a choreographer, I am fascinated by the potential of the moving human body. When I create material, I explore how to sequence, and where to sequence each movement for an idea to follow through logically and clearly. I use my choreography as a way to make sense of the world, sequencing, listening, creating, changing, hearing, responding.
As a performer, I am intrigued by the connection created between the performer and the audience. I attach my experience to the presented movement to be genuine and bring in the viewer. This creates a collaborative and symbiotic relationship between the two groups and allows the viewer to recollect upon their experiences.
Currently I am intrigued by the merging of modern concert dance forms, Latin music, and Latin dance. Using pieces from multiple Latin dance, such as salsa, the Latin dance styles and modern concert dance will meld into one. I want to connect two familiar things, in this creating an unfamiliar product. This unfamiliar entity will challenge expectations of what Latin dance is and where it is presented.
